![]() The law establishing the Order of Journalists of Italy, which is now celebrating its 60th anniversary, reminds us of these duties. Describing the complexity of migration and helping to understand the interdependencies and the international dynamics of the phenomenon: this is the commitment and the challenge of a journalistic narrative that wants to be truly respectful, first and foremost, of the dignity of the people involved and, at the same time, tell the truth about what’s really happening. Speaking of which, the impact of the immense tragedy of the earthquake in Syria and Turkey remains to be assessed. For example, there has bene quite a change in people’s view of the application of the new right to asylum. A decade ago, members of the press from around the world gathered in the heart of the Mediterranean to hear Pope Francis speak out against the “globalization of indifference.” Today, the new humanitarian crisis brought about by the conflict in Ukraine-which has been going on for a year now-conditions how we read about political issues and journalistic representation itself, to the point of affecting basic choices. These two events have, above all, contributed to the change in perception of migration and the way we speak about it, especially from a journalistic point of view. Less than ten years ago, Pope Francis took his first papal visit to Lampedusa, and now, ten years later, we have the Russian invasion of Ukraine. More than 100 people attended the event, including journalists, those who work in communications departments of organizations committed to the issue, and church leaders and leaders of educational institutions. ![]() The event was promoted by the ISCOM Association, the Faculty of Communications, and the “Information, Migrants, and Refugees” Committee. The lectures explored the topic Communication on Migrants and Refugees between Solidarity and Fear. The fourth edition of the Migrant and Refugee Study Day, entitled Narrating Migration: Stories, Faces, Hopes, was held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
